Tax Clearance Certificates

Get the tax clearance certificate (TCC) you need for outward remittances, overseas investment, or personal departure — prepared and submitted correctly the first time.

A Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) is official confirmation from the Inland Revenue Department that a person or company is compliant with their tax obligations for a specific transaction or purpose. Banks and Authorized Dealers require a TCC before processing many outward remittances, and individuals may need one for overseas investment, business, or personal reasons.

Since 1 January 2025, a TCC is required for all outward remittances unless the payment falls under the IRD’s prescribed “negative list” of exempt categories (such as import payments for goods, certain loan repayments, pension remittances, or remuneration already taxed under APIT with a T-10 certificate). Getting this wrong can delay or block your transfer entirely.

Eagle Eye Partners prepares and submits TCC applications for individuals and businesses — checking whether you actually need one, gathering the right supporting documents, and liaising with the IRD until it’s issued.

Our Process

How we handle it

A clear, structured process from first contact to completed clearance.

1

Check if you need one

We review your transaction against the IRD’s negative list to confirm whether a TCC is actually required.

2

Gather your documents

Invoices, agreements, tax residency certificate (for DTAA benefits), paying-in-slip and any other supporting paperwork.

3

Prepare & submit the application

We complete the correct IRD application form and submit it with full supporting documentation.

4

Liaise with the IRD

We follow up on your behalf until the certificate is issued, resolving any queries the IRD raises.

5

Hand over your certificate

You receive the completed TCC, ready to present to your bank or Authorized Dealer.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I always need a Tax Clearance Certificate to remit money abroad?

Not always. Since January 2025, a TCC is required for outward remittances unless your payment falls under the IRD’s negative list of exempt categories — for example, payment for imported goods, certain loan repayments, or salary already taxed under APIT with a T-10 certificate. We check this for you before you apply.

How long does it take to get a Tax Clearance Certificate?

Timing depends on the IRD’s current processing volumes and how complete your documentation is. We prepare a full, correct application upfront to avoid the delays that come from queries and resubmissions.

I need a TCC to leave Sri Lanka — can you help with that too?

Yes. Personal departure clearance is a separate IRD application (declaring your income and tax file details) and we can prepare this for you as well.

What if my remittance involves a Double Tax Avoidance Agreement (DTAA)?

If you want to claim a reduced withholding tax rate under a DTAA, you’ll need a Tax Residency Certificate from the other country’s tax authority. We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed and factor it into your application.
